"I am drawn to the visual challenges I encounter around me—an animal at rest, a bird among branches, the changing light across a landscape, or the structure of a familiar place. I begin by looking closely and trying to understand what it is about a subject that captures my attention. For me, painting is not about reproducing reality, but about interpreting it. I am fascinated by the process of translating what I see into line, shape, color, light and atmosphere, and by the choices that emerge as the painting develops. I may begin with natural colors and recognizable forms, but I allow myself to depart from reality when the painting calls for it. The feeling of the piece often reveals itself through that process rather than being something I set out to create from the beginning."

About

Margarita, of Danish and Venezuelan descent, has been painting since early childhood.
A mostly self-taught artist, she was trained as an architect in her native Caracas and is currently a licensed architect in Florida.
Soon after graduating, she immigrated to Florida.
To learn new construction vocabulary, methods, and computer drafting, she enrolled in the local community college, where courses on painting, silkscreen, and drawing were available as well. She participated in student and local art association’s exhibitions and earned awards and honorary mentions for her work. While working for different architectural firms in Florida, she attended classes and workshops offered by local museums, mainly in portraiture. After many years dedicated almost exclusively to the practice of architecture, with several portrait commissions, of both people and pets, in between, she has decided to focus on her drawing and painting work with the encouragement of family and friends.
